Here you will find upcoming events and recordings of previous events, that cover state of art technologies. Each approximately hour-long class is designed with kids in mind.
Discover all sorts of applications of computer science from computer scientists with decades of experience in leading technology companies. Pick your favorite free online classes for kids and save your spot today!
The Industry Expert Difference
Our open classes provide children a unique opportunity to learn directly from some of the biggest experts in their fields, from NASA, Pixar, Apple, and more. In these live (and later on-demand) classes, students discover real-life applications of computer science. They find out what coding has to do with their favorite sports, see how medical research is influenced by computer science, learn all about the power of GPU and its impact on movies like Star Wars, plus so much more. When experts passionate about subjects teach kids, the results are unbelievable. Students leave open classes realizing the world is full of wonder! Start a computer science adventure today, that brings a lifetime of joy.
- Grades 2-12
We are very excited to host Fred Haise, one of the three astronauts for the Apollo 13 mission.
Fred Haise began his aviation career as a U.S. Marine Corps pilot before transitioning to civilian roles as a flight instructor and research pilot. He later worked as a test pilot for NASA, contributing to various aeronautical research programs, which showcased his exceptional piloting skills. His extensive experience in high-risk flight operations led to his selection as an astronaut in 1966, ultimately serving as the Lunar Module Pilot on Apollo 13.
The 1970 Apollo 13 mission was a failed attempt to land humans on the Moon due to an explosion that severely damaged the spacecraft, but it was considered a "successful failure" because of the capabilities demonstrated by the crew and thousands of people across the world that collaborated to return the crew safely to Earth. We are fortunate to have as our special guest speaker, Fred Haise (NASA research pilot, Apollo 13 Lunar Module Pilot and Commander of the first Space Shuttle orbiter Enterprise) to share his personal experience and stories from his lunar and space shuttle missions along with his insights of the human spaceflight program, as Artemis attempts to return people to the Moon over 55 years after Apollo 13. Fred lives in Houston, Texas USA.
Due to Fred's organization's request, we will be hosting a pre-event and then the event itself.
Part 1 – Pre-Event Session (Friday, May 9th, 45min):
We will prepare questions for Fred together and send them to him in advance. All students who are interested in asking Fred a question should watch the two videos in this deck and submit your question via this form before May 9th. We will discuss these questions and your takeaways for the videos on May 9th. Students who attend this pre-session will get priority in asking questions.Part 2 – Live Q&A with Fred Haise (Thursday, May 23rd):
Students whose questions are selected will have the opportunity to ask Fred their questions live at the event! We are incredibly excited and can’t wait to learn more about Apollo 13 and space science!
